A receiving device 100 has: a first receiver 111 which receives compressed video data corresponding to a channel selected by a user; a second receiver 121 which receives self-contained and compressed still image data corresponding to a plurality of channels; a storage part 123 which stores a plurality of self-contained and compressed still image data that are received by the second receiver 121; an acquisition part 131 which acquires self-contained and compressed still image data corresponding to a channel after channel switching from the storage part 123 if channel switching occurs according to user operations; and a display controller 132 which decodes the self-contained and compressed still image data acquired by the acquisition part 131 to allow a display device 150 to display it by the time when the compressed video data corresponding to the switched channel received by the first receiver 111, is decoded and displayed on the display device 150.
