To provide a refrigeration cycle apparatus having superior performance of energy saving and also having high reliability of a compressor, by preventing oil outflow in a high temperature side compressor in a binary refrigeration cycle.
At the start of operation when a temperature of a water medium becomes equal to or higher than a shell temperature of a high temperature side compressor 31 by a predetermined temperature difference or more, a low temperature side compressor 21 is started after the high temperature side compressor 31 is started. Thereby, the shell temperature of the high temperature side compressor 31 rises while a discharge pressure of the high temperature side compressor 31 is restrained from rising, so that the condensation of refrigerant in the shell of the compressor is suppressed, and a discharge amount of oil is reduced. Accordingly, the compressor is prevented from being damaged, while suppressing the consumption of standby electricity required for heating the shell of a suspended compressor by a heater, and thereby the reliability of energy saving performance of the apparatus can be secured.
