To provide a new release valve for a coke oven, capable of eliminating the risk of operation at the machine side.
This release valve for the coke oven disengaging coke oven gas into atmosphere when the pressure of the coke oven gas in a gas collecting tube is elevated, is equipped with a casing 12 on which an opening through which the coke oven gas passes through, is formed, a valve main body 21 for opening/closing the opening by its rotation centering around a rotary shaft 20 and a cylinder actuator 35a for rotatably driving the valve main body 21. By actuating the cylinder actuator 35a, the valve main body 21 rotates and the opening opens up, and also when a moment working on the valve main body 21 caused by the pressure of the coke oven gas becomes larger than the moment caused by the own weight of the valve main body 21, the valve main body 21 rotates to open the opening even without actuating the cylinder actuator 35a.
