To uniformly coat the surface of photographic sensitive substance or photographic paper with a viscous solution having a specified viscosity in a specified thickness before drying by coating the surface of the photographic sensitive substance passing cartridge with the layer of the viscous solution by using a coating tool.
When the photographic sensitive substance 5 goes out from a processor in use, it is guided to roller assemblies 9 and 11 by a guide plate 27a. At such a time, the substance 5 is immersed and coated with the layer of the solution 3. In a coating section 15a, both sides of the substance 5 immersed in the solution 3 are coated with the solution. When the substance 5 goes out from a tank 7 through an exit 7b, it gets in a control section 15b having a metering roller 19. In the section 15b, the roller 19 controls the thickness, the uniformity and the adhesive amount of the viscous solution with which the surface of the substance 5 is coated. Therefore, the whole of the substance 5 or the photographic paper is immersed and controlled so as to obtain the protection coating having specified characteristics.
