To uniformly coat a processed photographic sensitive substance with a solution having a specified viscosity before drying by controlling the thickness, the uniformity and the adhesive amount of viscous solution with which the surface of the photographic sensitive substance is coated.
The combination of a tank 7 and roller assemblies 9 and 11 regulates a coating section 15a where both sides of the photographic sensitive substance 5 are coated with the solution 3. The device 1 includes a control section 15b including the combination of a carrying roller 17 and a metering roller 19 rotatably attached to the device 1. The section 15b is utilized to control the thickness, the uniformity and the adhesive amount of the solution 3 with which the surface of the substance 5 is coated. As a result, the protection coating having desirable characteristic and/or specified characteristic is obtained. Namely, by controlling the thickness, the uniformity and the adhesive amount of the solution 3 with which the surface of the substance 5 is coated, the control concerning the characteristic of the protection coating is performed by the roller 19.
