To provide a melting furnace, and a restarting method for the melting furnace capable of quickly carrying out restarting by a simple structure without requiring manual work of an operator in the furnace.
The restarting method is for the melting furnace 100 having a vertically movable tubular electrode 15 penetrating a furnace lid 13, and a furnace bottom electrode 16 arranged in a furnace bottom 14. After a shutdown of the melting furnace 100, restarting is carried out by lowering a stranded conductive material (an iron needle) 30 from a hollow part 15a of the tubular electrode 15 to a molten metal layer 21 of a furnace bottom part, the stranded conductive material 30 is erected such that at least its end part is exposed into the furnace, and the stranded conductive material 30 is energized by the tubular electrode 15 in starting of the melting furnace 100.
