Abstract:
PURPOSE:To attempt saving in energy by supporting a front and a rear rotor rotatably on the upper and lower frame panels of a mast set up for pivotal movement whereby controlling the revolving angle of a revolving edge coverless hollow type sailing canvas which is installed around said rotors such that a component in the thrust direction will be maximum. CONSTITUTION:A mast 14 which is set up for pivotal movement on the upper deck 5, supports a front and a rear rotor 10 and 11 rotatably between an upper and a lower frame panel 9 and 8, around which an edge coverless hollow type sailing canvas is installed, is rotated by means of a revolving mechanism 12. And a sailing canvas control mechanism 17 controls both the rotation driving mechanism 12 and a revolution driving mechanism 13 in such a way that the component F in the direction of a sailing course of a force L generated in the sailing canvas 6 due to the wind direction betadetected by a wind vane 16 will be maximum. Owing to this constitution, a lift force due to Magnus effect is obtained by revolving the sailing canvas for improving the propulsion performance of a ship. And the slackening of the sailing canvas is prevented by pressurizing an air tight chamber of the sailing canvas with air when in use, and the discharging of air facilitates easy fixing/removing operations thereof.
