PURPOSE: To obtain a rolled product of high quality and to improve the productivity of rolling, by controlling an edge drop and a crown of a sheet material, in rolling plural sheet materials at the same time in the same roll bite.

CONSTITUTION: Respective rolling conditions of sheet materials 1 and 2 to be rolled, i.e. rolling temperatures, sheet widths, sheet thickness at the inlet, drafts, diameters of rolls, and lubricating conditions, etc. are inputted to a computor 18 to calculate rolling loads (p1) and (p2) per unit width of the materials 1 and 2. Next, the position of the material 1 is controlled by actuating a positioning device 7 through a position controlling device 16. On the other hand, the position of the material 2 is also controlled by actuating a positioning device 8 through a position controlling device 17. When the materials 1 and 2 are entirely equal in sheet thickness, sheet width, rolling temperature, and material, etc. respectively, position controlling is performed to position both the materials perfectly symmetrically by setting the center line of rolls as a borderline. Further, rolling load detectors 9 and 10 and rolling load transducers 13 and 14 detect respective rolling loads actually, and when load fluctuations, etc. occur after finishing the positioning of the materials 1 and 2, a load controlling device 15 controls the loads so that a cross-sectional profile of the material after rolling attains a prescribed value.
