To provide a battery having high reliability by preventing stress corrosion cracking easy to be caused in a circular diameter reduced part of an electrolyte of a cylindrical alkaline storage battery and electrolyte leakage caused by the stress corrosion cracking.

In the cylindrical alkaline storage battery, an alkali resistant film is formed on a can bottom inner surface 6 in the circular diameter reduced part easy to cause stress corrosion cracking by stress. Even if cracks are produced in a nickel plating layer on an outer can surface, the alkali resistant film prevents contact of an electrolyte to a base material under the nickel plating layer. The generation of stress corrosion cracking easy to be caused in the diameter reduced part can thus be suppressed.
