Title:
SHAFT SEAL DEVICE OF ROTARY MACHINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6049170
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of a blower for sealing air by boring an axial hole through a rotary shaft, and connecting one side of the hole to a labyrinth chamber through a radial hole so that sealing air is supplied to the labyrinth chamber by centrifugal force produced by rotation of the rotary shaft. CONSTITUTION:Axial holes 20 are bored through the end portions of rotary shafts 2, 3 piercing a casing 1 that are opposite to couplings 8, 9. A plurality of radial holes 21 are bored through each one side of the axial holes 20 in such a manner as to communicate with labyrinth chambers 11a, 12a of labyrinth seals 11, 12, and the other sides of the holes communicate with the air on the outside of the casing 1. In this arrangement, when the rotary shafts 2, 3 are rotated, centrifugal force is worked upon air in the radial holes 21, so that the air is fed into the labyrinth chambers 11a, 12a. Accordingly, the pressure in the labyrinth chambers 11a, 12a is increased, which can prevent oil mist in the casing 1 from leaking out through the labyrinth seal 11, 12 portions to the outside.
