PURPOSE: To obtain a sheath-core type fibrillated fiber or web which can be treated by a simple method, is similar to a natural fiber due to the fine fibrils produced after split, has soft, swollen and warm touches, is excellent in an antipilling property and an abrasion whitening-resistant property, and has tense and stiff touches.
CONSTITUTION: A sheath-core type conjugated fiber comprises a sheath component and a core component. The sheath component comprises a low viscosity polyester (component A) having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.48-0.60 as a component and a polyester (component B) having larger solubility than that of the component A as the other component in an A component/B component weight ratio of 2/1 to 10/1 in a mutually joined shape, and has 32 or more layers. The core component comprises a polyester. This sheath-core type fibrillated fiber or web having fine fibrils is produced by dissolving off the component B contained in the sheath components of the conjugated fibers.
