The sheet feed device 210 is provided with a first pickup roller 201a contacting with the superposed sheet and rotated to convey the sheet; a second pickup roller 201b arranged at a downstream side in a sheet conveying direction of the first pickup roller and contacting with the sheet and rotated to convey the sheet; first and second pickup roller solenoids 108a, 108b for individually contacting/leaving the first pickup roller and the second pickup roller against the sheet; a sheet feed motor 109 for rotating the first and second pickup rollers; and a main control device 101 for controlling the first and second pickup roller solenoids and the sheet feed motor and conveying the sheet by the selected pickup roller of the first and second pickup roller.
