To provide a sheet feed error detector, a printer and a sheet feed error detecting method in which a sheet feed error in the printer is detected and sheet feed operation control can be regulated to minimize the sheet feed error.
The sheet feed error detector, the printer and the sheet feed error detecting method uses a print medium printed with a plurality of linear reference patterns printed by an upstream side nozzle array consisting of a part of the plurality of ink ejecting parts in a print head to intersect the carrying direction of the print medium, and a sheet feed error detecting print pattern consisting of a plurality of linear regulation patterns parallel with the reference pattern printed by a downstream side nozzle array consisting of a part of the plurality of ink ejecting parts located on the downstream side of the upstream side nozzle array in the carrying direction to overlap the reference pattern. A sheet feed error detecting print pattern having a lowest print density is specified and a correction value being added to the theoretical value of sheet feeding amount is determined to minimize sheet feed error.
