To provide a sheet member conveying device enabling labor for assembly to be reduced by suppressing an increase in the number of parts even when a curved path portion having a height difference in the direction of the gravity is installed halfway in a conveying path, and also provide a recording device having the sheet member conveying device.

This sheet member conveying device includes a paper feed roller 17 for feeding flexible sheets 12 one by one to the downstream side in the conveying direction, an inverting mechanism 14 which comprises a rotating member 19 capable of supporting the printing surface 12a of the sheet 12 fed by the paper feed roller 17 and which allows a rotating member 19 to rotate about a rotating axis 18 extending in the lateral direction of the sheet 12 crossing the conveying direction of the sheet 12 so as to draw a curved moving path with a height difference in the direction of the gravity, and a conveying roller 36 which accepts the sheet 12 rotated together with the rotating member 19 from the inverting mechanism 14 while being supported by the rotating member 19 of the inverting mechanism 14 and conveys the sheet to the downstream side in the conveying direction.
