To provide a shock absorber for a hydraulic cylinder applicable to a hydraulic cylinder formed with an oil passage in a rod, and capable of reducing weight of the hydraulic cylinder, miniaturizing the hydraulic cylinder and manufacturing at low costs.
A body 30 is installed in a piston 18 of the hydraulic cylinder, and a hollow spool 34 is slidably fitted in the body 30. The spool 34 is energized by a spring 36 so that a tip of the spool 34 is projected from the body 30 into an extension side oil chamber 20, and an oil hole 46 is formed in an intermediate part of the spool 34. The body 30 is formed with an oil hole 40 in a position opposite to the oil hole 46 of the spool 34 in the condition wherein the tip is projected from the body 30, and a plurality of throttle oil holes 42 are formed on a depth side of the body 30. When the hydraulic cylinder is shrunken and the spool 34 abuts on the cylinder end and disappears into the body 30, the oil hole 40 and the throttle oil hole 42 are closed in order, and flow of the pressure oil flowing from the extension side oil chamber 20 to the oil passage 24 is throttled.
