PURPOSE: To provide a non-woven fabric having high a tensile strength and high toughness, rich in flexibility and excellent in crease resistance.
CONSTITUTION: The non-woven fabric contains sheath-core type conjugated short fibers in an amount of at least 30wt.% as one of constituting fiber kinds. The sheath component is formed from a propylene polymer, and the core component is formed from an olefinic polymer having a lover melting point than that of the propylene polymer. The constituting fibers are mutually three- dimensionally interlaced by the action of a high pressure columnar flow. The rigidity of the propylene polymer having the high melting point is large, and the rigidity of the olefinic polymer having the low melting point is small. When the high pressure columnar flow is collided with the sheath component having the large rigidity, the energy of the high pressure columnar flow is efficiently converted into the kinetic energy of the short fibers. Thereby, the application of the high pressure columnar flow to a fiber web containing the sheath-core conjugate short fibers enables to obtain a non-woven fabric in which the constituting fibers are strongly three-dimensionally interlaced with each other and which exhibit a high tensile strength.
