Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow prompt lateral movement and turn of a hull by securing the thrust of a side thruster for a marine vessel with no cavitation danger and setting both boards to have almost the same thrust with the same rotating speed.
SOLUTION: The side thruster 1 for the marine vessel comprises a propulsion unit of a propeller type provided at a central portion of a duct 3 arranged passing through the hull 2 under a waterline in the cross direction for generating an axial water stream. Propellers 22 are provided at both ends of a propulsion rotating shaft 19 arranged in the duct 3. With the rotation of the two propellers 22, 22 at the same time, the axial water stream is generated in the duct 3.
