Abstract:
To provide smart functionality to discrete elements of a processing plant, in relation to the processing plant and a processing control system.SOLUTION: A method for signal characterization includes: (A) a step of receiving a DI message sent by a processing control device through a first channel, in which the processing control device is configured to (i) receive a plurality of DI signals conveying one or more sets of information through a plurality of discrete I/O channels coupled to a field device, (ii) encode the DI message with the one or more sets of information based on the plurality of DI signals, and (iii) transmit the DI message through the first channel; (B) a step of decoding the DI message and identifying the one or more sets of information; and (C) a step of transmitting the one or more sets of information to a processing controller through a second channel so that the processing controller can control the processing based at least in part on the one or more sets of information.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
