To provide a spindle of a machine tool hardly generating vibration or noise even at high-speed rotation by preventing abrasion caused by the relative forward and backward movement of a guide tube and a bearing.
This machine tool comprises a forward and backward moving member 130 inserted in a through hole 100a and rotating integrally with a spindle 100, an engaged part 130a formed at one end of the forward and backward moving member 130, engaged with an engagement part 110a of a chuck 110, and opening and closing a chuck pawl in a radial direction accompanied by the forward and backward movement of the forward and backward moving member 130, a guide member 140 guiding a workpiece inserted from the other end of the through hole 100a to the chuck 110 and supporting it, a supporting member 105 relatively rotatably supporting the guide member 140 to the spindle 100 in the through hole 100a, and drive means (150-155) moving the forward and backward moving member 130 at least to one or the other side.
