Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering yoke whose bearing contact surface exhibits reduced friction thereby reducing noise and vibration in a steering column in a rack and pinion steering assembly.SOLUTION: A steering yoke 222 includes a first end including an arcuate indent for receiving a steering rack shaft, where the arcuate indent includes a contact surface 224 comprising a low friction polymer layer. This makes it possible to increase the biasing force against the rack shaft. Further included is a spring perch 228 constructed and arranged to support and retain a spring for supplying a biasing force to the yoke.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3A
