PURPOSE: To segment a still picture with high accuracy through simple manual entry with respect to the still picture extract device separating and extracting a segment object area from other background area.

CONSTITUTION: A command input line 32 is formed by pointing information and a scanning block 33 is used to scan the line to divide an area in the block into a background area and a counter area through clustering and the area surrounded by the contour area is painted to extract an object area. A command input line correction section 21 corrects the command input line 32 so that the command input line 32 approaches a true contour 31 based on the clustering processing result in the case of the scanning by the scanning block 33. A command input line update control section 22 controls the start and end of updating of the command input line 32.
