To provide a surface-treated fluorescent body which can be greatly improved in moisture resistance without any deterioration in fluorescence characteristics and has high dispersibility, and to provide a process for production of the surface-treated fluorescent body.
The surface-treated fluorescent body has, on the surface thereof, a surface treatment layer containing both at least one specific element selected from group 3-6 elements of the periodic table and fluorine. In the surface-treated fluorescent body, when the element distribution in the thickness direction of the cross section of the surface treatment layer is determined by an electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray elemental analysis attached thereto, the maximum peak of the content of the specific element is located nearer to the surface than the maximum peak of the content of fluorine.
