Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occupants located too near to the installation position of air bags and a child seated on a backward child seat on an assistant's seat from being hurt by the deployment of the air bags.
SOLUTION: The radiation technique provided with ultrasonic converters 131, 132, 133 and a processor 101 and one or more pattern recognition techniques are used, signals generated from them are received and processed, and objects such as occupants in an automobile and a child seated on a backward child seat 110 are confirmed and monitored by this system. Received signals may be the reflection of the transmitted signal, the natural signal in the vehicle, or signals naturally emitted from the objects. The information added by this confirming/monitoring system is used for affecting other systems of the vehicle.
