Abstract:
To provide a system for detecting and identifying an article and an obstacle in the vicinity of rail tracks, between the rail tracks, or on the rail tracks.SOLUTION: A system for detecting and classifying an obstacle includes a plurality of forward visibility video devices configured to cover different forward ranges and preferably have sensitivities different in wavelengths of different radiations including visible light and far-infrared ray. The substantially uniform air temperature along rail tracks whose image is included in a frame of the video device helps to identify and distinguish between the rail tracks and a background. A living thing in an image frame is clarified by applying image processing to distinguish between the living thing and an artifact based on the temperature of a body. A rail track scene is immediately investigated and monitored by using an electrooptical sensor (for example, a thermal infrared video device sensor or a visible band video device sensor).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10A
