Title:
SYSTEM FOR PROCESSING SIGNAL REPRESENTING PICTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3933718
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve encoding efficiency without dissipating encoded bits for an erroneous movement vector by assigning a zero value to a movement vector.
SOLUTION: An adjacent picture sequence is analyzed by a fade detector 70 to obtain the sum total rate of absolute pixel differences, and picture fading and a luminance gradient related to it are detected and are sent to a movement predictor 48. With respect to all frames where fading is detected, an output movement vector value is set to 0. The correction output of the predictor 48 is processed by a mode processor 54 and is evaluated. If the movement vector set to 0 is not satisfactorily consistent, the processor 54 is operates a system in the intra-frame encoding mode. If it is satisfactorily consistent, the predictor 48 outputs a good result, and the system received the instruction of the processor 54 to execute inter-frame encoding.
