PURPOSE: To provide a taking in and out device for automatic warehouse which is easily conformable to the elongation of the suspending wire of a carriage with the lapse of time, if present and can smoothly perform the taking in and out.

CONSTITUTION: This device has a pulse encoder 108 and first counter 110 for detecting the raising and lowering position from the origin of a carriage into a pulse count value, converted into pulse count value an easy control panel 107 for setting a prescribed pulse number to a second memory 113, and a control part 114 for raising and lowering the carriage to a position obtained by adding the pulse number set in the second memory 113 to the pulse number of the transfer level of a load in the housing part of an intended shelf set in a first memory 112 at unloading of the load, and raising and lowering the carriage to the position obtained by subtracting the pulse number set in the second memory 113 from the pulse number of the transfer level of the load in the housing part of the intended shelf at the scooping of the load. Thus, the difference in transfer level, or the set pulse number can be freely changed by the easy control panel 107, whereby this device can easily and quickly conform to the fluctuation of the carriage with the lapse of time.
