To obtain the subject new compound consisting of a specific tetrahydrofuran derivative, having a high solubility and useful, e.g. as a broad spectrum antifungal agent having a favorable activity profile effective for treatment and prevention of a systemic fungus infection of mammals.
This compound is a new tetrahydrofuran derivative (salt) shown by formula I (2 Xs are both F or Cl, or one is F and the other Cl; R1 is a 4-5C alkyl substituted with 1 or 2 groups which are convertible in vivo into 1 or 2 hydroxy parts), and useful, e.g. as a broad spectrum antifungal agent having a favorable activity profile. The compound is obtained by reacting a tetrahyddofuran derivative shown by formula II (Ts is tosyl) with a hydroxy compound shown by the formula HOY (Y is a group shown by formula III) in an aprotic solvent in the presence of a strong base, e.g. NaH.
