In the thermal transfer printer for winding up a ribbon by an independent direct current motor to be driven corresponding to a printing operation period, having the label publishing method set in a publishing mode for additionally feeding a label continuous material after finishing a printing operation by a peel-off, tear-off, or cutter mode, and rotating a stepping motor for driving a platen roller clamping the ribbon and the label continuous material with respect to a thermal head so as to feed backward the label continuous material, the time for finishing the direct current motor drive for winding up the ribbon (winding rotation) is set earlier than the time for finishing the printing operation period by a predetermined time.
