To obtain a thermoplastic elastomer composition having excellent gas barrier properties and excellent rubber elasticity by kneading a thermoplastic resin having a specified or lower oxygen permeability and a specified or lower crystalline melting point and a rubber having a specified or lower oxygen permeability in a specified ratio.
A thermoplastic resin having an oxygen permeability of 50 cc.mm/m2.day.atm or below and a crystalline melting point of 250°C or below and a rubber having an oxygen permeability of 70 cc.mm/m2.day.at or below in such a ratio in which the thermoplastic resin constitutes 5-70 wt.% of the entire weight, and the rubber constitutes the remainder are kneaded to obtain a thermoplastic elastomer composition having an oxygen permeability of 60 cc.mm/mm2.day.atm or below, a hardness (Shore A) of 90° or below, and an elongation of 100% or above. The thermoplastic resin is desirably polybutylene terephthalate, a random copolymer polyester, nylon MXD6, nylon 6, nylon 11, or nylon 12, and the rubber used is desirably butyl rubber, epichlorohydrin rubber, polysulfided rubber or fluororubber.
