Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve exhaust characteristics by appropriately controlling the quantity of EGR in the range of low loading in response to the actual condition of injection carried out based on injection either only by an initial lift or by a main lift. CONSTITUTION:When injection by the main lift of an injection nozzle 52 is also carried out, NOx is increased with combustion gas increased in temperature, and when a large quantity of EGR is carried out with the quantity of EGR set large by a setting means 56, NOx is restrained from being generated. Meanwhile, when injection is carried out only by an initial lift, no more than the quantity of injection is supplied from the view point of the characteristics of the multi-step injection nozzle 52. Even in this case, when a large quantity of EGR is carried out, smoke, particulates, HC and the like are thereby increased. In this case, that is, when no more than the minute quantity of injection is supplied, provided that the quantity of EGR is set small in response to the aforesaid quantity by the setting means 56, exhaust air characteristics can thereby be improved with an increase in smoke and the like restrained.
