PURPOSE: To provide the process for production of the optical fiber by which the optical fiber having the uniform film thickness of the clad layer of the optical fiber obtd. by the process for production of the silica core optical fiber by using a soln. for clad formation and excellent light transmission characteristics and obviates the disconnection of the optical fiber by the viscosity increase of the soln. for clad formation.
CONSTITUTION: A nipple 4 housing the soln. for clad formation is internally provided with a liquid sealing system to prevent a viscosity change by the evaporation of the soln. for clad formation and the coating of a clad layer on the core is executed by which the optical fiber 9 is obtd. The clad is formed on the outer periphery of the core by providing the liquid sealing surface 6, by which the clad having the uniform film thickness is formed without the viscosity change of the soln. for clad formation. The disconnection of the core by the viscosity increase of the soln. for clad formation is eliminated as well.
