Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce the titled colorless composition having excellent physical properties in high efficiency at a low cost, by reacting a decomposed starch containing alpha-, beta- and gamma-cyclodextrins at the same time with an etherifying agent or an esterifying agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is produced by reacting (A) a decomposed starch containing alpha-cyclodextrin, beta-cyclodextrin and gamma-cyclodextrin at the same time (the content is preferably 10-50wt.% in terms of solid) with (B) an etherifying agent (e.g., ethylene oxide, butyl glycidyl ether or methyl vinyl ketone) or an esterifying agent (e.g. glacial acetic acid, acetyl chloride or formic acid). The decomposed starch can be produced e.g. by treating a gelatinized or liquefied starch with a cyclodextrin synthetase and subjecting the product to fractional treatment with semipermeable membrane and/or column chromatography.
