PURPOSE: To continuously measure the stress relieving behavior of a magnesium alloy by tightening a magnesium-alloy test piece to be tightened with a high strength steel bolt with a strain gauge stuck to the surface of the bolt.
CONSTITUTION: A strain gauge 2 is stuck to the surface of a high strength steel bolt 1 and a magnesium-alloy test piece 3 is tightened with the bolt 1 by applying prescribed torque. The lead wires 4 of the gauge 2 are led to the outside through holes 5 bored through the bolt 1 and connected to a measuring instrument. The stress of the test piece 3 is found by inserting the test piece 3 tightened with the bolt 1 into a furnace maintained at a constant temperature and calculating the surface load applied to the test piece 3 from the value of the gauge 2. Since it is considered that the bolt 1 which is used as a tightening member does not make plastic deformation at all under a condition where the temperature is relatively low and stress is low, the stress relieving behavior of the magnesium-alloy test piece can be evaluated without taking the deformation of the tightening member into consideration.
