PURPOSE:To prevent the washing water from being splashed to the periphery from inside of a washing tank by detecting a damping state from a motor state detecting means of a turn-off time in the course of stirring and,deciding a state of a motion of cloth, at the time of a high water level in which water is apt to be splashed to the periphery, and controlling the inversion time in accordance with this input. CONSTITUTION:A process control means 8 decides the cloth load quantity, and thereafter, feeds water into a tank 2 up to a water level corresponding to the cloth load quantity by operating a feed water valve 7 and drives a motor 5. In this case, in the case the water level is high, even if a motion of cloth is satisfactory in the beginning, ON-OFF are executed 32 times in all by a weak water flow of the extent that water is not splashed. A microcomputer 19 counts the number of waveforms in a period of OFF of the motor 5, disregards data of a period of TS1 and compares an integrating value of the number of waveforms in a period of TS2-TS4 and a reference value of the number of waveforms for preventing a water splash, and when the number of waveforms exceeds a reference value, it is decided that clothes are stirred enough, and stirring is continued in a state of the present weak water flow. On the other hand, when the number of waveforms is below the reference value, it is decided that the motion of cloth is bad, and thereafter, stirring is continued by a stronger water flow.
