PURPOSE: To obtain the element capable of forming a desired neutral-tone or cold-tone silver image by using a specific azole compound as a component of the element.
CONSTITUTION: This element consists of a substrate that supports an emulsion contg. radiation-sensitive silver chloride-bromide fine grains which has a ≤70mol%, typically ≤50mol% chloride content and a <0.3μm average equivalent circle diameter, and also contains an azole compound represented by the formula in a concn. effective in improving the tones of a developed silver image. In the formula: Z is -N= or -C(R5)= (wherein R5 is hydrogen, -NH2, an aliphatic group having 1 to 8 carbon or an aromatic group having 1 to 8C); R4 is hydrogen, an aliphatic group having 1 to 8C or an aromatic group having 1 to 8C, wherein R4 and R5 are joined together to form a five-membered or six-membered heterocyclic nucleus contg. 1 to 3 nitrogen atoms as members of the heterocycle; L is a divalent aliphatic linking group having 1 to 8C; T is an aliphatic terminal group having 1 to 8C;(m) is O or 1; (n) is an integer of 1 to 4; and (p) is an integer of 2 to 4.
