Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a new betaine being low in irritation to skin, capable of providing preferable feeling to the skin and useful as a base for hair or skin cosmetic, cleaning agent, emulsifier or conditioning agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound, e.g. alpha-D-glucopyranose-1-[ 2-hydroxy-3-(N, N- dimethyl-N-octadecylammonio)propyl]phosphate, expressed by formula I (Z is a residue obtained by eliminating (m+n)XOH from monosaccharide, oligosaccharide, sugar alcohol or glycerol; Each of compounds in formulae II, III bonds to the carbon to which the eliminated OH said in Z was bonded; R<1> to R<3> are 1-24C alkyl or alkenyl and at least one is 5-24C alkyl or alkenyl; M is H or cation; (m) is >=0; (n) is >=1). The above-mentioned compound is obtained by reacting a phosphate ester expressed by formula IV with an epoxy compound expressed by formula V (X<-> is anion).
