NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (Q is 1-8C alkyl, biphenyl or heterocycle substitutable with halogen, lower alkyl, nitro, carbamoyl or phenyl, etc.), a salt or a solvate of said compound and a solvate of said salt.
EXAMPLE: 1-(Benzo[b]thien-2-yl sulfonyl) hydantoin.
USE: Useful for therapy and prevention of various complications of diabetes, having aldose reductase-inhibiting action and simultaneously exhibiting cataract- inhibiting action, nervous incompetency inhibiting action and hypoglycemic action.
PREPARATION: A sulfonylglycine derivative expressed by formula II is cyclized with halogenated formic acid ester in a solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide in the presence of a base (e.g., NaH) at a temp. from -20°C to 120°C to afford the compound expressed by formula I.
