PURPOSE: To enhance abrasion resistance and durability, and to prevent soiling of the magnetic head and resulting output deterioration, etc. of a magnetic recording medium, by forming a magnetic layer contg. oleic acid, higher fatty acid or higher aliphatic alcohol, and fatty acid ester.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium contains 100pts.wt. magnetic powder and 0.1W20pts. lubricant mixture consisting of oleic acid (O), higher fatty acid or higher aliphatic alcohol each preferably ≥12C (F), and an ester of ≥18C salt. fatty acid and 3W6C aliphatic alcohol (E) in 1: 5:94W50:3:47 (O):(F):(E) weight ratio. The lubricants are added to a magnetic coating material to form a magnetic layer or it is added to the magnetic layer by coating or the like after forming the layer, thus forming a magnetic disc or the like superior in durability, abrasion resistance, etc.
