PURPOSE: To recognize a pattern accurately, by converting the pattern to be recognized to a simple pattern by an image converting filter, and comparing this simple pattern with a reference pattern.
CONSTITUTION: An optical image including information of a pattern 4 to be recognized is subjected to Fourier conversion by a convex lens 5. An image converting filter 6 is arranged on this Fourier conversion face, and the input image including the pattern to be recognized is filtered by this filter 6 to obtain a converted output image. The output image is subjected to Fourier reverse conversion by a convex lens 7 and is detected by a photoelectric detector 8. The video signal from the photoelectric detector 8 is digitized and is inputted to an MPU 9. The MPU 9 performs the pattern discriminating processing of the pattern after image conversion.
