PURPOSE: To provide the titled thin and durable roofing having excellent water- proofing property, by hot-pressing a paper made of a synthetic polyethylene pulp, vegetable fiber and glass fiber, and applying asphalt to one surface of the obtained water-impermeable core sheet.

CONSTITUTION: A sheet of paper composed mainly of 40W60(wt)% synthetic polyethylene pulp and 5W20% vegetable fiber (e.g. pulp, wastepaper, etc.) and glass fiber, is hot-pressed at a temperature above the melting point of the synthetic pulp (i.e. 90W140°C) to obtain a core sheet having a water-impermeable layer composed of the fibers bonded and integrated together by the molten and pressed synthetic pulp. Asphalt is applied to at least one surface of the core sheet to obtain an asphalt roofing having light weight and high water-proofing property.
