PURPOSE: To obtain the titled carpet resistant to the fray at the cut part, by heating and pressing a part of the foam-backed carpet corresponding to the part to be cut in application using a high-frequency heater, thereby collapsing the foam.

CONSTITUTION: A part of the carpet 1 backed with a foamed material 6 corresponding to the part to be cut in application, is passed through a high-frequency electrical field, and hot-pressed to form the collapsed part 4. The collapsed part 4 can be easily cut or bent without causing fray. The process is especially suitable for the treatment of a carpet backed with the foam of polyurethane, vinyl chloride resin, etc. the cut end of which has been difficult to be treated by conventional method.
