Abstract:

PURPOSE: To eliminate the line occurring at the joint of rasters on a phosphor display face by arranging a beam cut electrode having the surface applied with such substance as having low rear scattering factor and secondary electron emission factor in front of the light emission means.

CONSTITUTION: A planar display device is formed with a back face electrode 1, a linear cathode 4, electron beam take-out electrodes 5, 6, a vertical deflection electrode 7, a horizontal deflection electrode 8, a beam cut electrode 9 and an anode 10 having phosphor substance and a metal back layer. Here, the beam cut electrode 9 is formed by applying a graphite layer 22 having the thickness of approximately several μm onto the surface of an electrode body 21 and functioned while applying approximately same voltage with the anode voltage. Since the graphite 22 has low rear scattering factor and secondary electron emission factor, halation 26 is reduced to eliminate the line occurring at the joint of rasters resulting in improvement of the picture quality.
