PURPOSE: To prevent the circumferential edge of an original platen from being damaged, by constituting so that projecting shapes from the vertical direction of the original platen and a base plate containing an extended part are coincident with each other.
CONSTITUTION: A horizontal area of a base plate 1 of an electrophotographic copying machine is made narrower than a horizontal area of an original platen 2. Extended parts 1', 1" which are extended by the same size each in opposed moving directions of the original platen 2 from the upper end edge of the base plate 1 are provided, and recessed parts 3, 3' which become handles are provided on these extended parts 1', 1". The original platen 2 is divided and slides in the direction as indicated with arrows along the upper end face of the base plate 1. A transparent glass plate 4 for placing an original is provided in about the center of the original platen 2, its sliding direction size l1 and the same direction size l2 of the base plate 1 become as l1≤l2, and a cover 5 of the original platen 2 is moved as one body with the original platen 2.
