PURPOSE: To obtain a visible image high in precision through dry type development, by exposing to an energy beam image a recording material obtained by laminating an energy-sensitive polymer layer and a specified metallic layer on a substrate to form a latent image, and allowing an adsorption agent to be adsorbed in the latent image to develop it.
CONSTITUTION: An energy-sensitive polymer layer 1 obtaned by coating an organic polymer, such as polymethyl methacrylate to 1W3μm thickness on a substrate 2, such as metal or plastic film, and a metaleic layer 3 obtained by vapor- depositing a metal, such as iron, capable of forming ≥2 oxidation numbers containing 0 to 1W3μm thickness are laminated to prepare a material for recording a metallic image. The layer 3 is exposed to energy beams through a mask to form a latent image corresponding to change of interface energy on the surface of the layer 3, and it is left in the vapor of an agent to be adsorbed, consisting of a metal or a compound high in critical supply velocity, such as Zn, to allow to it to adsorb this metal selectively in the latent image, thus forming a negative or positive metallic image 4.
