PURPOSE: To reduce the weight and the size of a carrier and to enable quick carrying operation by positioning the carrier at a tool feed position then feeding tools sequentially to a main magazine with a sub-magazine being engaged with a supporting shaft and being rotary indexed.

CONSTITUTION: A sub-magazine 30 prepared with a tool T is mounted on a carrier 20 and carried to a tool feed position in the rear of a main magazine. When the carrier 20 is moved in axial direction of a supporting shaft 50, the tool T is guided by a guide block 91 and brought near to a supporter body 40, then a shank 31 is inserted into a tapered hole and the sub-magazine 30 is contacted with an indexing board 52. A pin in a stop mechanism 92 engages with a groove and a key member 86 engages with a groove 87 to press the pin through a stop bolt 80 so as to remove the pin thus making the sub- magazine 30 rotatable and pulling the sub-magazine rearward through the shank section 31. Upon operation of an indexing motor, the sub-magazine 30 is indexed through the supporting shaft 50 and the indexing board 52 and the tool T is positioned at a replacing position where the tool T is replaced through turning and advancing/retreating motion of a replacing arm with respect to the main magazine.
