Abstract:
PURPOSE: To trace efficiently a position of a mobile station in a cellular network where traffic distribution is not uniform by allowing a mobile user to send an update message to a base station of a report center every time the mobile user enters a report cell. CONSTITUTION: The radio network consists of report cells C2, C4, C6, C8 where base stations of a report center are in existence and non-report cells C1, C3, C5, C7, C9 partly overlapped with the report cells and being vicinity cells. Every time a mobile station user enters a report cell, the user sends an update message only to a base station (report center) of the report cell. When there is any message to be sent to the mobile station user, the user is traced in all cells in the vicinity of the report center to which the user reports its movement. Thus, the tracing of the user is limited in the vicinity of the report center and the update message is sent from a small number of specific cells only, and then the update and discovery are made efficient.
