The picture reproduced on the screen of a picture display 10 by a picture display element is made to pass through a diaphragm plate 23 as parallel luminous flux once by the microlens 22 of the 1st microlens array 21, and formed on a plate 26 by the action of the microlens 25 of the 2nd microlens array 24. At such a time, by properly setting individual positional relation and the focal distance of the lens, the light distribution characteristic of emitted light 28 is freely set. By providing a diffusion layer 27, etc., on the plate 26 so as to have a diffusing function, the quality of the picture is improved, and an observer can easily recognize a picture display surface. A method for interposing a transparent base material, a method for supporting by using a spacer or the frame of the display, and a method for utilizing the pressure of liquid or gas or the like are mentioned as the space holding means.
