PURPOSE: To provide a traveling object identifying device which communicates with many responders entering the communication area of an interrogator, without the generation of a crosstalk.
CONSTITUTION: In the traveling object identifying device constituted of responders 2a and 2b owned by traveling objects 3a and 3b, to which a peculiar identification number is assigned, and an interrogator 1 which communicates with the responders by using a non-contact communicating means such as a radio wave, sensor means 4a and 4b which preliminarily detect the number of the traveling objects passing through the communication area of the interrogator 1 are provided so that the communication area of the interrogator 1 can be changed according to the detected number of the traveling objects. Thus, when many traveling objects pass through the communication area of the interrogator 1, the communication area is made narrower than the communication area when a few traveling objects pass through, so that the possibility of the crosstalk can be reduced.
