Abstract:
PURPOSE: To form a uniform coating layer of silicon carbide on the surface of a substrate of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon composite material (C/C material).
CONSTITUTION: A powdery mixture of a silicon source with a carbon material is mixed with chopped or milled carbon fibers and a thermosetting resin, and the resultant mixture is molded in a prescribed shape and cured to form a molded body. The molded body is brought into contact with a C/C material and they are heated to 1,600-2,000°C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to coat the C/C material with silicon carbide.
