Title:
TREE HEIGHT MEASURING SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH11248443
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To accurately measure the height of trees with a simple operation.

This system provides a first distance measuring instrument 2 outputting an electromagnetic wave of a waveband from short-wave to microwave from the upper part toward the trunk of the tree using a helicopter or he like, a second distance measuring instrument 4 outputting an electromagnetic wave consisting of a waveband from a microwave to a visible ray from the nearly same height as the first distance measuring instrument 2 toward the tree, a recorder 6 storing the distance measured by the first and second distance instruments 2, 4. The first distance measuring instrument 2 outputs the electromagnetic wave of the wavelength of the order from 50 m to 50 cm, preferably approximately 1 m (P-band), which passes through the tree and is reflected at the surface. The second distance measuring instrument 4 outputs the electromagnetic wave of the wavelength from 10 cm to 1 μm, preferably from 3 cm to 1 μm (X-band to near-infrared region), which is reflected at the top and the leaves of the tree. Accordingly, the second distance measuring instrument 4 measures a distance between the second instrument 4 and the top of the tree.
